How It Works

Why Ketamine Reaches What Other Treatments Miss

Periods of heightened stress and trauma create areas of the brain that inhibit its ability to process and communicate. Think of Minimally Stimulated Ketamine Infusion Therapy (MSKIT®) as washing away the neuronal connections damaged by anxiety, pain, and depression — and starting with a clean slate.

Ketamine works by changing the baseline of the brain. The brain responds by releasing brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neuro-regenerative protein responsible for the antidepressant effect. These proteins repair and protect neurons, resulting in optimized emotional control, improved clarity, and better cognitive function.

Our approach focuses on stimulating large-scale neuronal regrowth and opening neural pathways — unlike traditional antidepressants, which primarily boost neurotransmitters without addressing pathway repair.

Two Protocol Families

Mood, Pain, or Both

Your condition determines the protocol. Both include NAD+, and your provider will confirm which fits at your free consultation.

Mood and hybrid protocols

For depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and suicidal ideation — plus mood/pain hybrid cases.

  • Six infusions over three weeks
  • About 90 minutes door to door
  • First booster typically 4–6 weeks after stabilization

Pain protocols

For chronic pain, CRPS, fibromyalgia, migraine, and postoperative or injury recovery.

  • Four infusions over two weeks for acute pain
  • Longer infusion times — ask your provider
  • Often paired with physical therapy

Beyond Ketamine

When TMS Is the Better Fit — or the Right Addition

Ketamine is not the only tool here. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is drug-free, requires no driver or downtime, and is insurance-reimbursable — and our TMS protocols have three ketamine boosters built in, because pairing them enhances brain function globally and supports longer-lasting remission.

Patients report 90% or greater remission of depressive symptoms when completing TMS using either the SNT or ONE-D approaches.

Common Questions

Ketamine Therapy FAQ

What conditions does ketamine infusion therapy treat?

Ketamine is used to treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, suicidal ideation, chronic pain, migraines, and symptoms related to long COVID. It can also support recovery from postoperative pain, injury-related pain, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

How does it actually work?

Chronic stress and trauma reduce the brain’s ability to process information and communicate between neural pathways. MSKIT® increases neural capacity, allowing the brain to form new, healthier connections. The brain responds by releasing brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a neuro-regenerative protein that repairs and protects neurons — producing better emotional control, clarity, and cognitive function.

What kind of results do patients see?

At Scenic City Neurotherapy, patients consistently report 85% or greater remission of symptoms after completing the Stabilization Phase.

Why is NAD+ included?

NAD+ is a key component in the Minimally Stimulated Ketamine Infusion Therapy (MSKIT®) protocols for both mood disorders and chronic pain conditions.

Do I have to feel dissociated for it to work?

No. Clinical benefit does not depend on feeling dissociated or having a hallucinogenic-type experience. Science supports the therapeutic effect being linked to what happens in the brain 24 to 48 hours after the infusion.

Is it safe?

Ketamine has been used safely in medicine since the 1970s and, unlike many anesthetics, does not suppress breathing or heart function. Here it is delivered intravenously at low, controlled doses by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, in a private room with continuous vital-sign monitoring.

How is this different from a ketamine clinic that gives lozenges or nasal spray?

IV administration is the gold standard. MSKIT® consistently demonstrates the highest patient-reported relief of depressive symptoms across all ketamine administration modalities.
